A new electrical tray was fabricated for the cb750 along with a battery box to suit. The cb750 will be keeping the original side covers that came on the bike, so the OEM battery location suited perfectly but some rearranging of things was necessary to make all the hardware fit beneath the seat. The battery is being upgraded to lithium so to ensure she stays charged the regulator rectifier is being replaced to suit the battery. The CB will also get a M.unit for all that Moto gadget goodness. . . Taking massive steps forward on the k100. Front end swap is done using our signature triple clamp fork conversion kits. Rear sub frame is tacked in place and we have started to shape the rear cowl. What’s the key to a good K Bike? Well in our opinion it’s rolling with the asymmetry that comes with the single sided swingarm, the discontinuity between the under fuel tank when stripping the original fairings away. It’s exactly why we have both the intake and exhaust (exiting) on the same side. Thoughts? Time to start the CB750 for the first time in the shop. Glad to say she fired right up but not without hiccups. Once she started we realised one of the cylinders was not firing and another sounded weak with not much heat coming down the manifold. So we do the basics and work backwards, spark!?-check, leads are connected to the right coils!?-check, spark plugs are in good condition!?-check, carbs are letting in fuel?!-check. At this point we are scratching our heads, thinking the worst we start stepping back through the manual for valve timing and making sure we did it right. But this not being the first cb in the shop we are certain we did it right but it's better to check again, so we go through and check the valves….. they are good. So at this point, we are stumped and start looking at the carbs. We take apart these brand-new carbs as we know that sometimes the fluid they run through them at the factory can gum up. Check all the jetting and there's nothing that stands out. We give them a clean anyway, reassemble and put them back on the bike, still misfiring…… what the hell. At this point, we are beyond stunned. Then we grab the carb tuner out of the draw to just check that the carbs are alright and well what do you know!! they are all over the place!! The cylinder that’s misfiring is showing the worst reading of all so we start to tune the carbs and the cylinder comes to life. So what is the lesson here….. don’t assume that your brand-new parts are always ready to roll out of the box. We made an assumption that the carbs from the factory were good enough to let the bike idle, but tunes out they weren't. Lesson learnt. had it not been for an assumption you would have saved a lot of time. What are some lessons you learnt the hard way? We want to hear about it in the comments. . .
